Barteldes is based on American architectural lettering and sign painting. Capital letters were based on architectural lettering by the Denver architectural firm Gove & Walsh and built in 1906.
Lowercase letters were based on exemplars in Frank Atkinson’s classic manual “Sign Painting Up to Now”, published in 1909.
